Graduate Students:
Graduate assistantships in saxophone are available for masters students. We are also able to offer full Graduate tuition waivers for students not awarded an assistantship! Contact Dr. James for information on available assistantships.
In addition to the MM in Saxophone Performance, Ohio University offers a MM in Woodwind Pedagogy. Click here for this curriculum, which includes study on all five instruments. It is possible to serve as a graduate assistant for the saxophone studio while pursuing the MM in WW Ped.
Please submit all of your application materials - including recommendations, transcripts, and a high quality recording, if you are not scheduling a live audition, as soon as possible in order to receive priority consideration for an assistantship. Saxophone graduate assistantship duties might include the teaching of saxophone methods (currently taught 1 semester per academic year), lessons for non-majors, coaching a saxophone quartet, assisting in the jazz area, teaching music theory, sight-singing, and/or music appreciation; publicity work; large ensemble assistance; classroom assistance; and/or office work. Duties are assigned based on the qualifications and interests of the student, as well as the needs of the School.
